Gateway Only Integration for Exchange Unified Messaging

For customers who have already implemented an Exchange Server 2007 UM solution within their infrastructure, Enabling Technologies can provide full installation of the gateway that bridges the UM server with the customer’s PBX system. Geared especially to customers who do not have detailed technical knowledge about PBX integration, gateway only implementation is an in-depth process that Enabling Technologies can easily and quickly provide.

Enabling Technologies Services

Enabling Technologies can provide gateway installations to interface PBXs at one or multiple locations. During implementation, Enabling Technologies engineers will:

Determine the correct protocols, scale, and gateway manufacturer to properly meet the requirements. Enabling Technologies is able to sell and install UM Gateways from both certified UM gateway manufacturers. The model and features of the gateway(s) depends upon the anticipated call volume, the telephony equipment with which the gateway(s) will be integrated, and the method of integration preferred (T1, digital, or analog)

 - Determine the optimal site(s) at which to deploy the gateway (especially important for multi-site organizations)

 - Discuss IP networking considerations for optimal performance and manageability of the gateway and UM server

 - Bring the gateway device to the customer site, assist in rack mounting the gateway, turn up and perform initial diagnostic tests

 - Perform basic gateway installation and configure it to communicate with the PBX system

 - Perform advanced gateway configuration, such as load balancing and fault tolerance

 - Perform auto attendant configuration and activation

 - Work with customer’s PBX administrator to provide guidance, as necessary, on programming and wiring the PBX system to integrate to the gateway device

 - Dial plan implementation to establish a link from the telephone extension number of an Exchange 2007 recipient in Active Directory to a UM-enabled mailbox.

 - Work with the network and Exchange team to properly configure the gateway to communicate to the Exchange environment

 - Execute a test plan to validate 20-plus functional use cases

 - Document and train the client on the changes

Customer Responsibilities

Prior to this implementation service, the customer should have:

  • Completed all programming and wiring of the PBX system. This includes the wiring and programming of the PBX ports (T1, digital or analog) that will interface the VoIP Gateway, hunt groups, and pilot numbers. If desired, Enabling Technologies can perform this work as part of an additional scope.
  • Activated the auto attendant and the UM server role
  • Ordered and installed licenses for their Exchange Server 2007 UM solution.

*An IP address and power outlet are required for the gateway.  If client desires Gateway integration with Certificate Authority, that work is the client’s responsibility unless specifically scoped.
